Students experience a range of personal, well-being and mental health issues while they are studying at university. Some of the common ones that you may encounter include:

- Eating Disorders
- Self-Harm

- Suicide and Suicidal Thoughts
- Bipolar Disorder
- Schizophrenia
- Psychosis
As an Academic Support Tutor you are neither expected, nor qualified, to help students address these issues and your role is more one of signposting them to the appropriate specialist support service. However, you need to be aware of these issues as a tutee may present with them. The following sections discuss these issues in more detail so that you know how to respond to them, and so that you can identify the most relevant referral services for a specific tutee need.
