Hello! I’m Nico, aspiring author and illustrator! My comic, ‘The Marvellous Misadventures of Maya Matthews’ is all about my character Maya, a young non verbal autistic girl who doesn’t quite see the world as you and I do. Lost in her imagination, she walks us through a normal day in her life, well – that is some mean bullies break what she believes is a magic wand, causing a sensory overload. I wanted to explore the theme of disability within my comic through my character of Maya, and try showcase the overwhelming nature of a sensory overload, a part of autism rarely depicted in modern day media.
