Final Day

This is the last day of work on this module, plenty of sub-editing, re-sub-editing to ensure that everyone’s work is perfect to a tee and ready to go to print; this also included a redesign and development of the cover so that it was in its final stage and that everyone was happy with it going into the final stage of production.

Final Branding Decisions:

  • As a result of earlier decisions about the style of the magazine, there it has always been the intention that the final magazine product would be minimalist in terms of cover design and throughout.
  • At the beginning of the day it was decided that we would try and develop the cover as there was some disagreement with the logo and the general consensus that it could look more professional without this and that some of the presentation could be adjusted further as well.
  • As a result of this the cover evolved over the day, each design was brilliant, but there was a further branding issue in that the image that was used on the final selection did not meet The Yorkie’s target market‘s requirements.
    • Roughly 18-30
    • From York or the surrounding area
    • Optimistic
    • Young
    • Woke
  • The image originally featured an older member of society (as can be seen in the image “3rd”) who was not appropriate for our target audience (see above and on previous posts) and so a number of new images were considered until the final design was settled on. This meant that the final branding of the magazine was suited to the appropriate target audience and that the critiquing of everyone lead to a final design that looked great.

The final cover design can be seen below (this was completed by Hannah):

Collecting everyone’s final pieces of work:

Most of this week has been spent concentrating on gathering the content that everyone has created for the magazine, this work was mostly done by Molly and Mia began to help her when she had completed her work and it was ready to go. The main concern for ensuring that everyone completed subbing work for everyone else’s pieces so that they were perfect meant that there were three or four rounds of sub-editing for almost every piece that went into the flat-plan.

Unfortunately, one of the last things to be nearing completion was the Editor’s letter which I did not complete until after lunch time which meant that the first three pages could not be written off as completed for slightly longer than anticipated (see below to read). For this, I prepared by reading editors letters from several different publications over the preceding week or so, when it came to writing though, I looked at the list of editors letters from Vogue and took inspiration from there. I concentrated on a few stories that really caught my interest within the issue and seemed like some of the most eye catching that a reader might be interested to hear about.

Most importantly though, everyone managed to get all the work required done by 18:00 and the magazine is completed, ready to print. As you can see below, I have already begun spreading the news of all the great work that has gone into this magazine:
