Feature feedback:

At the point that this was marked, I had only just transcribed my second and third interviews (which had been conducted nearly two weeks previously) and so the article was about 250 words short. This was because of poor time management on my part, but the feedback Robyn gave me was still very positive, and give me clear areas to work on.

Adjustments:

In the feedback Robyn said that she liked the article sections, especially the idea of “York’s forgotten orchards”, and so I decided to split my feature distinctly into these areas. By this, I mean that I made the decision to place each of the article subsections on to different pages within my design.

Some of my phraseology was nonsensical and did need reworking something that I made sure to sort during the session before I began adding the final elements. On top of this, the title was too wordy and need some adjustment, I decided on: Fighting the good fight. There were some basic errors that I also needed to correct within the main body of text, for example, adjusting semi-colons and correcting a few spelling mistakes.

Now that I had received feedback on my edible food story and found that I could get nowhere with my article looking at the acoustic music scene in York’s bars I decided it was time to concentrate entirely on this piece. It would work well because there were already several people looking at music for the culture section of the magazine Fighting the good fight would fit in the politics section. The evolution of this article from looking at businesses that waste food to looking at charities that work to get wasted food to people that need it was a swift one, as soon as I conducted my interview with Lisa Price from Hoping Kitchen York, it became clear that what was more important was that there were people using this crisis to help others.

Personal evaluation:

I think that leading up to the formative hand-in I was split between two or three ideas and this lead me to allot my time poorly. Luckily though, I contacted numerous charities and organisations, as well as some waste law experts for the feature Fighting the good fight and as a result of this many of them got back to me and I was able to get the information and interviews required.
