Reuniting with York St John – Alumni Newsletter, Winter 2018
Earlier this year 14 former students headed back to York to celebrate 25 years since graduation. The group studied a combination of Film, TV and Design degrees and so were delighted be shown around the current Media Production facilities by Subject Director for Media Production (and fellow alumnus) Dr Steve Rawle.
For many of the group the reunion was the first time they had set foot back on campus for more than 20 years, and their first opportunity to see many of the developments that have taken place on Lord Mayors walk over the last two decades. After spending the day on campus they moved the reunion to York city centre for an evening meal (and to discuss the next meet up!)
If you’re thinking about planning a reunion yourself, but aren’t sure where to start, why not take a look through our top tips for getting a successful reunion off the ground?
- Plan early – Not only will you give your former classmates as much notice as possible, but you’ll give yourself time to track down people you may have lost contact with. It’s also wise to check potential reunion dates against what’s going on in York to avoid extremely busy periods like race weekends.
- Get in touch with the Alumni Office! – We always love to know when groups of former students are meeting up, and if you’re planning on returning to York we are usually very happy to offer a tour of the campus and help you with any room booking or catering needs.
- Promotion, promotion, promotion – A reunion is a great opportunity to reconnect with lost friends. Thanks to social media it is easier than ever to track down fellow alumni, and we can even get in touch with any alumni from your year group for whom we have records and spread the word on your behalf.
