With rent and living costs on top of tuition fees, being a student can be an expensive business, however there are some simple ways you can earn some extra pocket money, and quickly.
The UK’s number one hiring app, Job Today, who help loads of students and graduates find full and part-time employment, has put together a list of five ways you could boost your student income.
- Delivery driver
Many students own a smartphone and a bike, so why not put these to use to earn a bit more money? Delivery jobs are easy to come by and often very well paid, , with some paying as much as £15 per hour. Not only that, many delivery jobs give you complete control of your schedule so you can work around your studies, and maybe even travel around a bit.
- Dog walker
As the majority of people are at work during the day, many will need someone to walk their beloved dog. This presents the perfect opportunity for canine loving students, with the average wage for dog walkers in excess of £12.50 per hour. If you’re walking more than one dog, you could double or even quadruple your hourly earnings!
- Tutor
You might not have considered tutoring before, but as well as paying very well (more than £15.50 an hour), it counts as valid work experience and looks great on any CV. We’d recommend keeping tutoring classes to in between your own classes to make sure your studies don’t suffer.
- Bar work
A lot of bar work involve late shifts, which can be perfect for students. Many bar jobs don’t require much experience and pay around minimum wage, but in a lot of establishments this is topped up with tips which means you can end up earning a lot more. Duties can vary depending on the bar, but there are plenty of different tasks which hopefully mean you won’t get bored during your shift.
- Sell your stuff
If you don’t have enough spare time to get a part-time job, have a look through your belongings to see if there is something you can sell online to earn a bit of spare cash. Electronics like old phones, tablets and video games always sell well, but there is also a demand for old textbooks that you might not need any more (which can be very pricey when purchased first hand). Websites like eBay and Schpock are all great for selling things second hand.
