Raana Jefferson SU Elections

Contextualising Statement

The first task we were set was to film the student elections in small groups. We were allocated 2/3 candidates to film and we had to ensure that when they arrived, they felt comfortable and relaxed. As the producer, it was my duty to make sure they filled in a contributor release form, this was to ensure that the candidate was happy to be filmed and it can also be used when filming on short notice. In terms of health and safety, we made sure all cables from the lighting were tucked away using cable protectors to reduce the hazard of tripping or falling.

The main aim of this task was to learn how to work with 3-point lighting in the studio. After having a tech demo, I felt comfortable within my role to assist the other members on lighting. This tested our knowledge on working with available lighting and trialling colour gels. Group work was essential in this task as we had to fill different roles for the task to run smoothly.

Our second part of the task was to individually edit a chosen candidate. For example, I chose Raana Jefferson who was running for chair of Art and Design. As well as editing the clips together on premier pro, we had to provide subtitling which we transcribed ourselves. This was to test our understanding on subtitling as on most media platforms such as YouTube and Netflix, they are now transcribed.
