Book Review Submission Guidelines 2024

Are you an avid reader? Do you want to get your voice out into the literary world, but don’t have a creative writing piece on hand?

Where Ideas Grow also accept book reviews!

Please see below for the book review submission guidelines:

Your book review should be approximately 500-1,000 words. We may accept submissions that are less than 500 words, but we kindly ask that you do not exceed the maximum.

Your book review can take any creative format, but here are a few points for you to consider:

  • The title of the novel and the name of the author(s).
  • A general synopsis of the plot
  • What did you particularly enjoy about this book?
  • Are there any reasons that you did not enjoy the book/any way that you believe the book could be improved?
  • Would you recommend this book to other readers – why?

You do not have to include every point for your piece to be accepted.

For a further example of how you could structure and format your book review, please follow the provided link to ‘What the Editors Read in January’: What the Editors Read in January – Where Ideas Grow (yorksj.ac.uk)

Please submit your book review as a Microsoft Word Document (.docx). This should be emailed to whereideasgrowblog@gmail.com

In the subject line of your email, please include:

  • Your full name (or, otherwise, the name that you would like to appear on the blog)
  • “A Review of [book’s title] by [book’s author(s)]”

Your book review can be published anonymously, but please make this clear in your email – either in the subject line or the email body.

You can submit multiple book reviews, but please only send one at a time.

All accepted submissions will be promoted on our social media sites, unless the submitter states otherwise. This will include our Instagram (@whereideasgrowblog) and Twitter (@wigblogysj).

Please contact whereideasgrowblog@gmail.com with any questions!
