Introducing “Book’d & Busy: A Lit Life On Campus”

English Literature and Creative Writing Student Podcasters team up to produce a new and official monthly Words Matter Podcast

Following the release of the final episode of Words Matter: Pass It On over the summer (an interview with Professor of Global Literatures, Dr Sarah Lawson Welsh), we are delighted to reveal our brand new, student-led podcast, Book’d & Busy: A Lit Life on Campus.

The new show is hosted by two students who already have plenty of experience making waves in the YSJ podcasting space: Rachel Bentley and Maddison (Madz) Warley

In 2023-24, Rachel was a producer on Unspoken Stories, the Beyond the Walls tie-in podcast. After the first few episodes, events conspired to land Rachel in the hosting seat, and radio magic was born. Featuring engaging, entertaining and enlightening episodes, the series saw Rachel talking to staff and students a like. establishing Unspoken Stories as a must-listen for everyone on campus and beyond.

Meanwhile, at the same time, Madz became a co-host of the anarchic and entertaining Dog-Eared: A Bookish Podcast, a series which grew organically out of the YSJ Dead Poets Society (the YSJ SU’s biggest ever club, established to create a space for booklovers from across the university to gather for silly and simulating book-based activities).

Now, for the first time, Rachel and Madz are teaming up for Book’d & Busy, a new monthly podcast which promises to be your one-stop-shop for bookish chat; exploring the books that made staff and students in Literature and Creative Writing at YSJU, and the books we are reading now.

In this first episode, published during York St John University Welcome Week 2024, Rachel and Madz talk to the Course Lead for English Literature, Adam J Smith, about how to make the most of the first few weeks at University studying Literature and/or Creative Writing.
