After a week of voting it is a decisive victory of Queenie!
Every summer, the English Literature programme at York St John University hosts the #YSJBigSummerRead. This is an opportunity for current students, prosepctive students, alumni students and staff from all across the University to read and discuss the same text over the summer months.
You don’t even need to be affiliated with YSJU – anyone and everyone is welcome to join the #YSJBigSummerRead!
This year we invited suggests for what we should read and we were amazed by the response we received! Eventually we managed to whittle the many suggestions down to a short-list of just four novels, before opening it up again for a week of voting via both Twitter and the blog.
And, after a total of over 70 votes across both voting platform we are delighted to announced that Candice Carty-Williams’ Queenie has won a decisive victory, gaining a whopping 45% of all votes cast.
Now that we have our text, the #YSJBigSummerRead can begin!
All you need to do is get hold of the novel and start reading!
If you’re on Twitter or Instagram, you can share your thoughts and pictures on the novel with us and other readers using our hashtag (don’t for get to tag us: @YSJLit).
We’re also inviting short responses to the text to put up on the blog. Just submit your response here!
