”…it was great to be involved in so many amazing projects whilst completing two brilliant courses.

Whilst at YSJ I had the pleasure of attending the colloquium series, assisting in volunteer outreach projects such as YEAL (helping pupils with English as an Additional Language in mainstream schools) and YESOL (teaching English to adult speakers of other languages). I also had the opportunity to complete Signature BSL exams and assist with BSL Christmas carol services. Whilst completing my MA I also attended beginner Spanish lessons and helped host the Postgraduate Forum of Applied Linguistics and acted as an academic representative for my course. During my time at YSJ I completed a research assistant post where I worked on mapping the provisions for pupils with English as an Additional Language (EAL) in mainstream schools in York – this was fascinating and led me to pursue this area of research during my MA. My MA dissertation focused on how the Teacher Educator’s perspective of Initial Teacher Training and how it prepares teachers to support EAL pupils.
