Lucy Woodcock, 3rd year, English Language & Linguistics 2019

As highlighted at the very beginning of the degree programme, getting involved with the department is key to success! First and foremost for me is the community feel of the department, with students and staff collaboratively working together, to achieve greater things. There’s a certain something about the department, that definitely doesn’t go unnoticed!

The school of Languages and Linguistics have provided endless, fantastic opportunities, sparking new interests and talents that I didn’t even know I had. From the Colloquium Series to the Linguistics Society to invaluable work experience to conferences.

Next, I plan to get some more work experience under my belt, to get a further feel for my area of interest and the working world, which I’d then like to apply to a paid job. For me, communication and sharing our knowledge with others are key, and I’d like to spread the word!
