Hello future Korean students!

I hope you’re all excited and looking forward to starting your Korean course this September and congratulations! We’re living in strange and unpredictable times, but I feel I can assure you that you will be warmly welcomed by everyone at York St John and the transition into university life will be made as smooth as possible.

So, first year of Korean. What can you expect? Well, I won’t go into details of the course (spoilers!) but I can tell you that you will have the pleasure of being taught by our fantastic Korean lecturers. They are so supportive and encouraging in every aspect of your learning. Learning a new language can be daunting and the course is at a fast pace but it’s completely doable if you are dedicated, engaged and use all the resources at your disposal- of which there are many.

If you bump into any second-year Korean course students, I’m sure they will be more than happy to speak with you. If that’s to help with your studying, questions you may have about the course, some tricky grammar or even if you need someone to talk to because it’s all a bit much. There are so many shoulders to lean on so please don’t be shy. Speaking of meeting other Korean students and or students with similar interests, there is a Korean Culture Society at the university. Giving you the opportunity to make friends, learn about Korean culture and have fun in a relaxed and inclusive environment.

I wish you every success in your future studies and hope you’ll enjoy your time at York St John.

(Hot tip: learn your Korean alphabet (hangul) before you arrive! Everything will be made much easier if you already have that under your belt!)
