Content planning

Not only did I want to ensure I meet the current needs of the audience, but I have to understand that the trips I have been on do not appeal to everyone, although the places I have been will each appeal to someone. This is important in the freedom of my content, it will all be interesting someone but it will not all be interesting for everyone. I intend to cover most of the places I have travelled to and only a select few places I have eaten in, every place I have travelled has been relevant to my blog as it is places to travel to which therefore simplifies things despite other people trying to over complicate the overall idea of Foody Travels.

Now I know the length of seven-minute reads and the 2019 blogging statistics I needed to look at what content would be popular. I did my research on where are the most popular city breaks and Paris was up there as one of the most popular as it is always so timeless, I also wanted to incorporate this into my writing of the piece.

Luckily enough,I have been to 5 of last minute.com’s top 10 city breaks 2019, the list is:

  1. Barcelona
  2. Amsterdam
  3. Rome
  4. Paris
  5. Dublin
  6. Venice
  7. Krakhow
  8. Prague
  9. Edinburgh
  10. Budapest

I have been lucky enough to have content for Barcelona on 3 occasions, Rome, Paris, Prague and Edinburgh.

Most recently I had a very exciting trip to Paris for my 21st birthday and figured it would always be relevant but my motivation to write on this was fresh in my mind so I began with a thoroughly planned cover of Paris.

As I wanted the content to never be too long and tedious I split up the posts into two, one on where I recommend eating and one on the overall experience of what to do when there and my tips.

I gathered images from my trip, collated the most important images and places to mention and did a post. This first post was daunting, it was the most important step in the whole process as I established my own house style, I learned about the relaxed content and how I was ok with how I am operating in a unique way. I later circulated the post on my personal and linked foody travels Instagram pages.

I want the content to be relaxed, express my writing style and not too much emphasis on the formality and way it is written as the content should be mainly informative and the images should be the lead.

This was a challenging part of the process as once I  start writing content it means the house style is agreed on.
