The Talk About Teaching and Learning (“TATL”) blog was launched in September 2023 to ignite, encourage and extend conversations about teaching and learning at York St John University (YSJU). The concept developed from the Teaching and Learning Enhancement (TLE) team’s well-established annual conference, Talk About Teaching. Acknowledging that the themes, approaches and discussions held at these conferences – though rich and thought-provoking – are often left at the venue’s door, TLE envisages the blog as a forum through which to sustain momentum around important teaching and learning topics. It is hoped that TATL will promote collaborative thinking, provoke interdisciplinary discussions and provide a space for diverse communities of staff and students to interrogate teaching and learning-related matters. 

The TATL blog also functions as an external presence through which YSJU can promote its work and ideas on pressing and relevant HE teaching and learning themes. In this sense, it provides an opportunity for the YSJU community to share related activities and reflections within the public domain. 

Last of all, and perhaps most importantly, the TATL blog is a creative space, in which submitters are encouraged to explore a wide range of topics in a variety of formats – you may wish to include pictures, videos, links or poems, for instance. While Guidance for Submitters is provided, it is intended merely to answer frequently asked questions, rather than to function as a prescriptive set of content rules. All we ask is that all content is attributed to the appropriate source. Submissions are encouraged from staff from all areas (academic, professional and support) at YSJU, external guest contributors and – vitally – students.
