student opportunity: teach in nepal

Blog staffer Beth Davies has been in touch to make students aware of a fabulous opportunity in Nepal. She writes:

You may have seen, whilst procrastinating and scrolling through Facebook, that there are lots of organisations that take students all around the world on incredible volunteering expeditions every year. There’s photos everywhere of people in bright t-shirts stroking elephants, teaching young children in India, and seeing the wonders of Thailand in beautiful communities. You may be looking and thinking, do I want that to be me? Do I want to work on building communities; communities that have suffered? Do I want to spend my 2018 summer helping?

So here we are, writing to you from Challenges Abroad, an organisation that sends students abroad to help communities in need every year. Next summer, we are taking 15 York St John students to volunteer & help the community in Nepal, South East Asia, who are currently living in poverty. And we’re happy to say, you could SO easily be one of them! At a tiny participation fee of just £275, that’s all you need to be flying across the seas and adventuring in the Himalayas next year!

The trip is 3 weeks in Nepal, 22nd June till 13th July, helping communities devastated by the 2015 earthquakes. You could be working on renovations in the morning, teaching Nepali children in the afternoon; and trekking through the Himalayas at the weekend. For English Lit, Media, Creative Writing students, etc, bring across your love for storytelling and related passions, and have the opportunity to teach a beautiful group of Nepali children.

This trip encompasses a personal fundraising target of £1,950 which, in our team, we work to raise throughout the year with lots of incredible events. You’ll have constant support & help from myself, your challenge leader, and all the amazing people at Challenges Abroad. We understand it can be a huge decision to take the leap and spend 3 weeks abroad! That’s why we have a huge support network to work alongside you every step of the way.
