Many thanks to Mollie Field for getting in touch to let all of our students know about the following opportunity to write for Neutral Magazine.
The Neutral doesn’t refer to neutrality or indifference, it is an ardent, burning activity
Mollie writes:
“The title ‘Neutral’ is inspired by French cultural critic Roland Barthes (1915-1989). Neutral magazine originated in print and moved to the digital platform in 2013. Since then each year a different local design company has worked along side the students to launch a thoroughly contemporary website around a concept relating to society and culture. This year the editorial team have chosen United by Design. http://www.ubdstudio.co.uk @ubd_studio
Previous years concepts have included; nature and technology, gothic and soviet propaganda. This year we are working to make Neutral more external, promoting Neutral through local media, we hope that the launch will be a really special event of which will be a great platform to network and promote the students writing. The design of the website is undergoing a transformation in its layout, design and graphics. All of which chosen by the team!
The content will be separated into six categories in the 2018 edition; Film reviews, Media and technology, Fiction, Issues and debates, Culture and society and the Arts. We are welcoming original pieces of around 1,000-1,500 words. These can be around any Media, Film, Culture, Society, Fiction or Arts topic. Similarly, creative writing is welcomed!!
Neutral aims to go further than just the debates of media and culture, but we want the articles to be creative and ambiguous in topic!
If anyone would like to volunteer as a content writer, or indeed if any student would like to be involved in the social media or marketing side of the project and or planning the launch event. Please get in touch! My email is m.field@yorksj.ac.uk and you can find out more by follow @YSJFilmMedia on Social Media.”
