bradford literature festival – volunteer roles!

The Bradford Literature Festival have been in touch regarding their festival volunteering scheme.

‘Bradford Literature festival has been hailed as one of the most inspirational festivals in the UK. Featuring over 400 artists across 300 events, we celebrate the written and spoken word in all its wonderful forms. We would love your help to spread the word about the different opportunities available to join the festival, we are looking for a large team to work with us from the 29th June- 10th July. Volunteers will gain valuable skills that all employers are looking for in a fun, dynamic and fast paced environment’.

Volunteer Roles

• Guest Assistant
This role focuses on making sure that each of the 400+ writers and artists who feature at BLF are happy and able to participate in their events to the best of their ability. This could involve helping to serve refreshments in the festival green room, greeting guests at train stations and directing them to their venue or hotel, or escorting them to venues either on foot or by taxi. This role requires a certain amount of maturity and discretion since, although most guests are very easy to work with, we have to maintain a high level of service and ensure that the guest is completely confident in their escort.

• Venue Assistant
A Venue Assistant will be based in event venues helping Venue Managers and Stage Managers with all aspects of event delivery. This includes managing queues, checking tickets, seating the audience, mic running at Q&A sessions and preparing the stage and signage. We will be assigning volunteers to different zones (such as the University of Bradford or Bradford City Hall) throughout the festival so that they are well acquainted with their venue and can help events run as smoothly as possible. Depending on your availability, this may include working at the festival Schools Day events on the University of Bradford Campus.

• Festival Runner
This is a fun and active role for anybody who likes to be busy. Festival Runners are relied upon to carry out whatever tasks are required by festival staff, including standing in for other roles when extra staff may be needed. It could be anything from delivering marketing materials to assisting with busy events or picking up food for a guest. Since our venues are spread across the very hilly Bradford city centre, a Festival Runner would need to be able and happy to move between venues as quickly as possible.

Taking part in these roles means you could be doing anything from escorting a Booker Prize winner to their event, to helping co-ordinate our Family Fun Days. Energy and enthusiasm are a must, but the benefits and opportunities are endless! For more information, visit the website:  www.bradfordlitfest.co.uk/opportunities
