Learning British Sign Language at YSJU has been such a fantastic experience. I feel I’ve already learnt so much from my first year that I can’t wait to see how much I’ll learn by my third. The BSL classes are diverse with students from a variety of courses so you get to meet lots of new friends. I’ve made bonds with my fellow BSL students which I have no doubt will last a lifetime, the community spirit amongst everyone is wonderful. Not to mention the teachers and lectures you’ll meet on your chosen course. Both Dai and Amanda have been outstanding. They’re always keen to help and you can see how much passion they have for teaching. I take BSL and Deaf Studies and can honestly say it has been the best decision of my life. I have lots of friends on other BSL/language/linguistics courses who all speak highly of their chosen degree and can agree that being a part of Language and Linguistics has been like being in one big family. We’ve loved our BSL experience so much that this year we established the British Sign Language Society with help from the SU which we can’t wait to get up and running on arrival back at campus and to welcome more students to our growing family.
