Instagram Story

The second artefact was to create a 60 second Instagram story on the topic that we chose of ‘hobbies and interest’. For this artefact we worked in groups to be able to produce an informative, easy to follow no equipment workout video. We wanted the visual of the story to be easy and informative enough for viewers to follow with the onscreen captions to alone. The problems that we encountered was firstly that the location that we initially planned to shoot our story on was no longer available which meant that we had to make a last-minute change on our location that would still be suitable for our video. This created another problem of health and safety as our new location was now outside which we meant we had to take into consideration the weather as the ground was wet which could have caused injury when performing the exercises. This meant that our risk assessment had to be well thought out and followed for multiple circumstances (Hse.gov.uk, 2019).

A concept that we were trying to achieve was to create an eye-catching opening sequence to draw viewers in. To do this we created an introduction sequence that included bright colours and movement within text and images to make the viewers want to find out more about the video. Another concept was to fit all the necessary information into the short amount of time allowed. To achieve this concept, we decided we would need to use things for example on screen captions or a voice over to give extra information to keep the content short. This is one of the main concepts used on Instagram stories, so we wanted to make sure to include these techniques in our video.

From working on this artefact, I learnt how to problems solve with the issues we encountered like the changing of location on such short notice, as well as learning how to use the camera in different was to that it fit into the format of the online media platform. I also learned new editing techniques to use in post-production to be able to be able to change and use templates to make the content more interesting and visibly appealing.
