Kalen Reid SU Elections

The first artefact was a set brief task where we worked in groups to shoot the student elections promotion videos for the students participating in the election. For this task the main elements we were trying to achieve was to make it look professional whilst including everything the brief required, so it could be used for the elections.

The problems that we encountered with this task was trying to get all the different bits of material needed for the content to be at its best potential. To be able to get this material we had to repeat the interview questions, so we had more options and more content form the answers to work with.

The concepts we used in our video was the ones that are most commonly used in the industry, which includes having the interviewee slightly off centre whilst not having them looking straight down the camera to give the more professionally. Through this task I learnt how to use three-point lighting to give the video the most professional look by making sure all areas of the scene are well lit and doesn’t have any shadows in the background of the shot. One of the main things I learnt whilst doing this task was how to work with a guest. I learnt how to make a guest feel comfortable, so we could get the best responses we could. As if the interviewee does not trust the interviewer they will not speak as freely (Frost,2010:143). I also learnt how to create subtitles in post-production so that the video could be watched and understood with or without sound.
