Introduction to media
“This module will introduce you to the broad history of media institutions and forms. During this survey module, you will be asked to engage with and understand a broad range of media institutions and practice, specifically the ways in which products are created and consumed within a historicised marketplace. You will also be encouraged to see media as having cultural, economic and political impact and what that means for both producers and audiences.
In studying the module, you will also be introduced to the study of media in an academic context as well as study skills, including methods of research, essay writing, oral presentations, theoretical and historical modes of study, referencing skills, and sourcing and using evidence. Through the module, you will begin to build knowledge and confidence at the start of your route to more independent learning later on in the programme.”- copied from moodle introduction to media
