Lydia Taylor – Naya Rivera

Naya Rivera has been an inspiration to me since I was a preteen. Naya portrayed Santana Lopez, a lesbian character, throughout her coming out journey. She was bold, independent and proud. She helped me to see that I could be too, and I believe I wouldn’t be where I am today without her portrayal. Out of character, Naya was said to be supportive, caring and the heart of any room. She unfortunately passed last year saving her son from drowning. Today, I feel confident to be an openly gay teacher and want to inspire LGBTQ+ children as she did me.
