Queen Latifiah was a pivotal member of the “Native Tongues” Hip Hop collective in the late 1980s. She successfully managed to break into a very male orientated musical genre and promote a ‘conscious’ form of Hop Hop. This movement was orientated around spreading positivity and challenging all forms of discrimination. She touched the heart and soul of many men and women and became a champion for the female march of progress.
