Studio Task

As a whole group we were tasked with creating a 10 minute studio segment with everybody assigned a different role. I believe that each role was as significant as each other in making this show successful as we all collaborated together in a professional manner to create the best segment we could with the allocated time. I was given the role of presenter which I was very satisfied with as I enjoy working in front of a camera and I felt I could successfully deliver our ideas as a group on screen.

My responsibilities as presenter were to present the show with my co-host in a fashionable and professional manner which meant staying relaxed in front of camera and constantly staying focused whilst on set. As presenter I had to lead the questions and conversation whilst also controlling how long each discussion went on for as we were trying to stick to a 10 minute schedule. I was also helped and encouraged by my colleagues in the gallery as they could tell me when to move on to the next question through the ear piece I was wearing. This made for smooth transitions throughout the segment.

We had several rehearsals before shooting the live recording of the show in which we could get a feel for how the discussion was going to go in each question and get comfortable in our positions in front of camera. It also allowed me to remember which camera needed to be looked at during certain points making the show look professional. On each camera there was an autocue with our script on so that I and my co-host could read off it whilst looking at the audience allowing for the segment to run smoothly. One problem I was faced with as presenter was being told to fill in 15 seconds of dead time at the end of the show. Being relaxed and having the ability to quickly improvise ensured that the timing requirements were met.

Furthermore, my duties expanded from presenter as I went to every meeting held in which the whole group or a smaller group discussed the direction in which we would take the show. This included set design, props and scripts as well as other key details. I worked in a small team to create the script for the show in which one person then wrote, edited and sent everyone a copy every time it was updated. To record the VT’S a small group of us assembled in a pre-booked room that met the requirements needed. We had the camera and lighting crew working with us to ensure we got footage that matched the style we had gone for in the live recordings.

We recorded two live shootings as the director wanted as much footage as possible for the editor of the show to use. This was very useful as the editor could pick the best rounds from the two takes and create the finest finished piece they could with what they were given. The producer ensured that all risk assessment forms were filled in and all health and safety requirements were met before engaging in this task. Despite relishing the role of presenter, if we were to do this task again, I would apply for a role in the gallery to enhance my production knowledge and experience.
