Coming to YSJ? Let us help you…

Coming to university is a very big step for everyone. Not only is there all the aspects of living away from home to get to grips with but there is all the aspects of academic work to engage with and to master. But don’t worry! Here on the Primary Education Programmes at YSJ we are ready to support you with all your academic work!

From Different Courses

All the tutors here recognise that you have been doing different qualifications in the last few years. These might range from A’ levels and BTECs to some people taking a year out to gain more experience or even to see the world. But here at York St John University (YSJ) we are ready to support you no matter what sort of qualifications you have done in the past. The first year does not count to your degree classification so you have a whole year to get used to writing and presenting in an academic style before those grades start to count!

Academic Tutors

As soon as you arrive, actually on the first day!, you will be introduced to your academic tutor. This is a tutor who will be supporting you for your three years at YSJ. They are there to help you with the feedback from your assignments, to point you in the right direction when you need help and to offer advice to help you improve your writing and presenting. They don’t do it for you, but they will support you on your way!

 Academic Librarian

The library can be a huge daunting area when you arrive at university -but don’t worry, we have you covered there as well! Within the School of Education we have an excellent academic librarian who you can arrange tutorials with – either by yourself or in a small group – to ask any questions about the library you have. She will help you to find books, check books out, find journals and even support you to get the referencing correct in your assignments!

 Friendly and Approachable Staff

All the tutors here were once teachers in schools and so we are used to answering questions and supporting learners. Remember we are not mind readers, but if you ask for help we are there to support you. Just like you have been told many times, there is never a silly question – apart from the one you never ask!

See you soon!

We hope that gives you some idea of how we support you at YSJ. We are all looking forward to see you in September so work hard on the exams and if you have any questions just email us and ask away!,

Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter – @ysjprimary and to like our Facebook page.
