Project Update: Early Career Trajectories
Hello to all fellow student researchers!
It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly three months since we (that’s Sue and Angie) began our project, exploring the career trajectories of students who have graduated from both counselling and psychology courses within the past four years. In that time we’ve had a number of productive meetings with our project supervisors, Jacqui and Lynne, worked together to produce invitations to participants, consent forms and of course the all important ethics approval! We’ve had a few challenges in terms of meeting face to face to discuss the project, but have found ways of working around that thanks to the wonders of modern technology! Sue has been liaising with colleagues in the Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) team, looking at ways in which we can use a website to provide participants with access to real life, anonymised case studies throughout the life of the project. Watch this space…
Since sending our first invitation to participate we’ve had a number of positive replies, which is great and gives us real hope that we’ll be able to get a wide range of responses to our questions. The next stage for us is to conduct telephone interviews – Sue has lent her expertise to creating some useful prompt questions for the telephone script which should help us to encourage participants to expand on their answers and prevent any awkward silences!
So, for us it’s so far, so good. We’re looking forward to the next phase of our project and updating you with our progress.
