This week sees the final twelve events taking place for York LGBT History Month 2015, including three at York St John University. For a summary of the events, which include a number of talks and panel events, a drop-in commemorative plaque-making session, a film screening, a reading group, a display, an exhibition and the official closing event – a spoken word and poetry night – see the blog post.

Supporting LGBT staff working abroad

On Wednesday 18 March, we will be holding a joint event with the University of York on how the institutions can best support LGBT staff who in their roles need to work abroad in countries which may be less LGBT-friendly or hostile, and the challenges and considerations with a view to developing policy and good practice.

The event will take place in room BS/008 in the Berrick Saul Building at the University of York. Email equality@york.ac.uk by Friday 6 March to confirm your attendance, stating any specific requirements.

Equality and higher education: issues, ideas and initiatives

On Monday 23 March, Gary Loke will deliver a seminar at the University of York focusing on the changing higher education landscape and its impact on participation in various areas, such as gender, race and disability. He will consider which factors influence the choice of different groups to go into higher education and explore how higher education reform, fees and funding have also impacted on staff demographics. The seminar will also offer a chance to discuss what future government changes might mean for social justice in education.
