CFP: Humour and Satire in British Romanticisim (Durham, 13-14 Sept)

Thank you to Daniel Norman for letting us know about this exciting forthcoming conference:

We would like to announce a two-day conference on Humour and Satire in British Romanticism, jointly organised by Durham University and Newcastle University, to take place at Durham University on 13-14 September, 2019.

Our aim is to explore the ways in which Romantic writers perceived, understood, and employed humour in their works. A reappraisal of satire is central to this aim. We intend to consider comparatively neglected satirists (both literary and graphic) as well as contemplate satirical and humorous strands in the leading figures of British Romanticism. Special attention will be devoted to the use of humour and satire in response to the social and political events of 1819.

We invite submissions for standard 20-minute papers by 20 May 2019. Please email proposals to romantichumourandsatire@gmail.com.”
