In this inaugural lecture, Professor Esther McIntosh draws on the feminist slogan ‘the personal is political’ as she explores the extent to which this phrase is still relevant today. Charting her career journey through a male-dominated academic field, she will reflect on the theological and ethical issues that inform her emphasis on equality and gender justice.
In contrast to the current views of ‘gender critical’ feminists, and contrary to the ambivalent and, at times, hostile position of mainstream Christianity towards queer folk, Esther will argue for the inherent compatibility of feminism and trans-inclusion and, hence, the necessity of developing an explicitly trans-inclusive feminist theology.
